Persib (acronym for Persatuan Sepakbola Indonesia Bandung) is an Indonesian soccer club located in Bandung, West Java. This team has achieved many prestigious awards since their involvement in the days of the Perserikatan competitions until Liga Indonesia today.


History

Persib was founded on July 13, 1933, with name BIVB (Bandoeng Inlandsche Voetbal Bond). BIVB was one of the clubs which set up Persatuan Sepakbola Seluruh Indonesia (PSSI) with its representative, with VIJ Jakarta, SIVB, MIVB (PPSM Magelang), MVB (PSM Madiun), VVB and PSM at Societeit Hadiprojo, Yogyakarta, 19 April 1930[5].

Achievements

One of the most memorable achievements in the history of this club is when they became champions of the last Perserikatan competition in the 1993/1994 season. In the final match, the club with legendary players such as Sutiono Lamso and Robby Darwis won against PSM Ujung Pandang. Afterwards, Galatama and Perserikatan merged into Liga Indonesia (LI). In the first season of Liga Indonesia in 1994/1995, this team became champions when they defeated Petrokimia Putra Gresik in the finals. Persib was also one of Indonesian clubs which reached quarterfinal round of Asian Champions League.

Persib Bandung has a large fan base from West Java to Banten. They are known as "bobotoh". The "bobotoh" are organised into many fan clubs, the biggest is Viking Persib Club
